Inkive Privacy Notice
Last updated: June 25, 2026
Thank you for using Inkive. We value your privacy and data security. This notice explains what information we process, how we use it, whether it is shared, and what choices and rights you have.
What We Collect
Inkive only processes information needed to provide its core features:
- Camera and Photos: Inkive needs access to the camera when you take photos of book pages and to Photos when you import images. You can choose whether photos captured in the app are also saved to the system Photos library. This option is on by default and can be turned off in settings.
- Book page images and analysis results: Book page images you capture or import, together with OCR and layout analysis results, are used to create clippings and notes. Recognition and analysis are performed locally on your device and are not transmitted over the network.
- Book information: Book titles, authors, page numbers, and other metadata that you enter manually or add by scanning an ISBN barcode. ISBN scanning uses on-device barcode detection. Book metadata lookup may send an ISBN or search keyword to retrieve public book information.
- Clippings and notes: Highlighted text, annotations, and notes you create in the app.
How We Use Your Information
- To provide core features such as capturing or importing book pages, text recognition, layout analysis, clipping editing, and share image export.
- To store the books, clippings, notes, images, and analysis results you create locally on your device.
- To retrieve public book metadata when you use the book metadata lookup feature.
- We do not use your data for advertising, profiling, or third-party marketing.
Data Processing and Storage
- All app data, including books, pages, clippings, notes, images, and analysis results, is stored locally on your device in the app sandbox, including a local SQLite database.
- OCR, text recognition, layout analysis, barcode scanning, and image enhancement run locally on your device and do not rely on cloud services.
- Inkive does not enable iCloud sync. Your data is not automatically synced to other devices.
Sharing and Third Parties
- We do not sell, rent, or share your data with third parties.
- Inkive does not integrate third-party analytics, tracking, or advertising SDKs.
- When you actively export a share image through the system share sheet, the content and recipient are fully controlled by you.
Diagnostics and Support
Inkive does not automatically collect diagnostic data in the background. If you contact us for technical support, we may ask you to manually export and send specific debugging information, such as analysis logs or sample images. This only happens with your explicit consent. You can decline to send such information without affecting app functionality.
Your Choices and Control
- You can delete books, clippings, and notes in the app at any time. Deleted data is removed from the local database.
- You can grant or revoke Inkive's camera and Photos permissions in iOS Settings.
- You can turn off "Save original photo to Photos" in the app settings.
- Uninstalling the app removes all local app data. You can also manually delete books and clippings in the app before uninstalling.
Children's Privacy
We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13 years old, or the equivalent age defined by your jurisdiction. If you believe that we have collected such data without consent, please contact us and we will delete it.
Changes to This Notice
We may update this privacy notice because of product changes or legal requirements. If there are material changes, we will notify you in the app or through another appropriate method. Continued use means you accept the updated notice.
